Satin damascus?

As a CRK noob I have a few new questions daily. Today, what are these annual's I'm hearing about? Is that a special inlay of a different material each year I'm guessing?

Also, my LKS has a sebenza (I think it was a small 21) with what they called satin damascus and was considerably more than the regular knives. It looked just like a plain satin s35vn blade to me. Is this a thing or a misinterpretation?

That's not a thing with CRK. Damascus COULD be satin finished, but it's almost always etched to bring out the pattern.

A satin finish on Damascus doesn't make much sense- the point it to highlight a pattern in the metal by acid etching it. The annuals were a limited run of 60 large and 60 small sebenza folders made each year from 1999-2011. There were various different inlays offered each year, they were offered with the regular stainless blades and Damascus blades. The difference between the annuals and the regular inlayed sebenza is the annual inlay is one solid piece instead of two strips.
Here is an annual: (my picture)

Here is a non-annual inlay: (not my picture)

That's what I was thinking. I was in the shop again tonight picking up my Mnandi and I looked at the "satin damascus" again. I believe it's a large 21 unique graphic with what they call satin damascus and it's more than the other unique they have. My shop is an authorized dealer so I'm certain it's not a fake, I think they somehow made an oops. I'll bring it up to them.

Ask to look at the birthday card, that will clear it up! The unique graphic designs are more than the regular inlayed knives and the cgg (computer generated graphic) knives. I wish I had a shop near me that stocked CRKs!

Perhaps post a photo of this satin Damascus?

I'm curious.

I will when I go in there after work tomorrow. I talked to one of the workers last night and it sounds like they're confused and somehow either got the wrong box with a knife or got two mixed up but it still doesn't explain where the "satin damascus" idea came from. He was told that's what it was so listed it as that, he told me. I'll log onto tapatalk and post a picture of the box that's supposed to go with that knife.

Okay, here's the photo he sent me last night when I asked about it, this is the box the knife came in. It is a large Unique but has no inlay and is a plain Jane blade AFAIK. There had to be a misunderstanding/screw up somewhere.

Sounds like a mix-up to me.

If there is no cabochon, then I would suggest that someone switched boxes/knives. It could have been a fairly costly mistake for someone, too.

Edit: Oh, and it is a large knife in the box marked small? Yeah, something is quite wrong there.

Im not an authority on the topic, by any means, but I have never heard of satin damascus. Modern pattern welded steel (what it really is) is done that way for aesthetic reasons...there is NO OTHER advantage over alloys that are monotone and satin finished....in fact, many would argue (and easily win) that modern monotone alloys are superior in performance to pattern welded "damascus". That said, anyone that attempts to sell a satin finished blade that appears completely monotone, and claims that it is damascus, REALLY has their work cut out for them!

And I'll take the opposite approach. If they carry CRK, I'd be surprised that they have no idea what they have. It's possible they're just trying to take you for a ride. Salespeople make crap up all the time to try and sell things.
