Satin & DC - Help, I'm still new

I'm still new here so go easy on me. I understand what the satin and DC finishes are however in browsing photos, I'm still a bit confused about how the satin really looks. Some of the photos the satin looks real shiny, others it doesnt. On the Busse company store gallery, the pictures make the 2 finishes look very close.

I am leaning towards the DC as it looks more dull, and less reflective than the satin, and the Satin seems almost shiny like a polished finish. Is this correct? Would it be too much to ask to see a direct comaprison of the two? I did browse through all or most of the photos on the sight however a lot of them do not note the finish. Did or does Busse offer a more polished satin or are some of the users polishing them more?

Thanks again as I work towards my first Busse.

Regards,
Brian

The satin ones are usually pretty shiny. The satin is polished steel, it's not super-polished like a true mirror finish. Also a satin finish will hide minor scratches MUCH better than a mirror finish, and I like to see the grind marks. For the most part if a satin knife doesn't look shiny in a picture, it's just the way the picture was taken.

This is probably the most asked question on here, we should have a sticky!! :p
Some one should add the finishes to the acronym sticky.
BB = bead blasted,
CG = Combat grade
of course DC.
any others?

satin is shiny with very very small grinding marks... VERY small and nice looking.

Dblcut is like a matte finish that your would find on a non glare rifle or pistol... very nice also but not shiny.

Thanks for all the replies. I have a good idea now of what's what.

I guess it was just a little confusing as the term "Satin" is a little mis-leading and I dont mean that in a bad way. The Busse satin seems to appear more like a "plain" or even polished finish.

I always thought of "Satin", as in metals used in the firearms industry to mean "Matt", "flat" or "dull".

In paint, the ranking, from dull to shiney are something like flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, gloss. Or something. This has nothing to do with anything, and I'm just rambling, and I just finished painting my room a wekk ago and... and... I'll leave now.

In the decorating industry, metal that are finished with a brushed finish would look like satin. Matte finish on metal is more like the DC, but the DC is even more dull.

I really like the look of the DC finish. I am going to look into a SFNO in that finish one of these days. It looks really cool and from what I have seen and heard it is the most wear resistent coating that Busse Combat uses.

One other thing, it is a neutral colour so it will not attract a lot of attention if you want to remain discreet.

DC Rocks!

It's becoming my favorite finish. Still need to put my Meaner through the paces to be sure.

A SFNO with a DC finish. Now you're talking! Add some black canvas mag handles and away we go.....

Hey Peter, if find two let me know and I'll buy the other one. I want a SFNO in a real bad way. A fatty would really rock!

It is highly unlikely, I have been looking for one for a while but no one wants to part with theirs. I have one with a jungle camo finish and I was thinking of giving it a satin finish and making it a user. I am not sure though. Decision, decisions. :D :confused:

Any chance Jerry will bring them out again? Maybe next spring or summer when he's done with the AKs and the FBM? :)

One can hope! :thumbup:
