So I got my sheath back for my SFNOLE, kydex liner, and upon pulling it out of the sheath I hear a ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip. Look down, a few substantial scratches going the length of the blade.
First off, it's no fault of the sheath maker. Let's just get that out of the way first.
What I have noticed with some of my Busse's is that if you pull your nail across the face of the blade, you can almost feel the ridges. I think this makes it more susceptible to scratching. Should I hit this primary grind with some scotchbrite? Send it to Tom Krein? Leave it?

oopps...I missed the le part.....there is no coating:D

I would just live with it, because anything you do will make the surface worse because you won't be able to get a even surface finish. Also, everytime you take the knife out of the sheath, there will be marks again, so you will just be trying to fix the marks constantly.

This is exactly right, If you want to keep your satin finish from being scratched the you dont put it in a a kydex sheath.

Satin blade=leather sheath

coated blade=kydex

orr......

satin sfno le= use that sob and don't worry there will be more scratches to come

or.... send it to me and ill take good care of it

but then again for some reason i have no problem beating rare knives

One reason I like leather sheaths

But the kydex didn't scratch it, the contaminate did which really could happen with leather too.
I'll just beat the SOB.
Maybe I'll post a pic to show y'all. It's uggggly :D

What I was trying to get at in the initial post was; is there a more forgiving satin finish that can be applied to the knife?

This seems to come up from time to time as a subject.

If this knife is to be a safe queen and never to be used then take it out of the sheath, wrap in in a diaper and either keep it in the safe or put it on Display, under glass will keep the dust off as well.

On the other hand if this knife is to used then this knife is a tool.

A tool will get scratched, dirty, dinged and scarred.

It will also need sharpened from time to time and this too will leave marks on the blade.

I suppose then the question is what do you want the knife For?

Edited to add:

Busse knives have a satin finish with a grain the runs from the spine to the edge, this is subject to very easy and visible marring.(From the sheath)

If you choose you can polish this out and have a some what more durable Satin,

You can also satin in line with the blade, but then the marring will happen when chopping or sharpening.

That's exactly what I was looking for. I don't have a prolem with scratches in the finish, it's a user and will get scratches from use but these are pretty severe. My GW and GWAD variant both have surface scratches from the same thing but they're not as severe. The odd thing is, neither of those knives make the zip sound if you run your fingernail across the blade.

This user wonders what Busse would charge to re-satin finish one side of the blade ,,,,, just incase something like this ever happens,,,,,,,, cuz it DID :D ,,,not from kydex though. Non -abrasive polish and a nice clean cloth to buff with, but a nice minute particle of some crap embedded in the cloth,, did'nt notice till too late,,you can imagine

I could take it down to *mirror* but want it satin the way it was meant to be.

I'm always amazed by sellers who put up a satin finish Busse or a LE Busse with a Kydex sheath and say it's mint except for a few scratches from the kydex. If you're selling satin Infi for profit, why buy a kydex sheath ? Forget the sheath or buy leather.

Because well made kydex pants don't scratch. Not everybody finds leather as wonderful as others.

All the more reason to wonder at people who put expensive collectables up for sale with kydex sheaths that have scratched the knife. They'd probably make more money selling them separately too. To me a kydex sheath is for users, not collectables. This isn't to say sellers can't do whatever they want either, it's a free world as far as I'm concerned.
