Satin Finish Junglas

Hey All,

My Junglas has had quite a journey in my hands, but what it comes down to is that it is still the same hunk of steel it always was. I have used it hard, processed a lot of wood with it, and it's look has evolved over time quite a bit. I had the coating originally, and then when it started to wear I stripped it and forced a patina. The more I used it, the uglier it got, and the more I loved it. Now, I figured it was time to clean it up and give her a nice satin finish for a while. I used 400 grit sandpaper, and although you can still see some machining marks and there were a couple of tough spots that would have taken quite a bit more to buff out, I'm very happy with it's new, "user satin finish".

Here you go!

Your Junglas looks good. It reminds me of some of my early "Ghetto Satin" finishes I did on Busses and Rangers. A good Scothbrite wheel will only do so much, though. To get a true satin finish takes a lot of careful sanding. But it is rarely worth the effort. Yours looks just fine. I am leaving the paint on my Junglas. After doing a full convex on the similar sized Busse Bushwacker, I realized that it just isn't worth the effort.

Here is the painted knife.

I used this Kalamzoo belt sander, after stripping the paint.

JGON,

Reading your posts for quite a while now, always inspirational- been following the transformation of your blades, have to say that they get better with use and care. That Junglas is so cool.

It does look good. Unpainted and in the rough looks like a user should look!

Jgon looks good..

question though, what is the line in the steel?? sorta looks like a rectangle or something caused from forging? never seen that before, could this be common on all??

I was wondering the same thing. I've never seen lines like that in a blade before. It looks like it's only on one side also.

Dude that looks great, thanks. I have posted asking to see "stripped" ESEE knives like this awhile ago and that is exactly the look I imagine doing an ESEE 6.

i love it! that satin finish is boss. thank you for sharing the evolution of your junglas with us. i really appreciate it. one thing is sure, no matter what state that blade is in, it always looks like it is begging to be used. it looks hungry for trees! nom nom nom...
