Satin Finish

I have a Busse battle mistress that has a satin finish,

It has some light scratches and a halo of user scratshes along the bevel(very light),

So my question is, how hard is it to restore this satin finish to pristine?

I have access to grinders and such, is it a matter of purchasing the right kind of whhel to do this myself, or do I need to have it done. I have become fairly good at using a belt sander to put an adge on my knives, so I`m not afraid of doing this myself, if it is something that a novice can do,

Thanks in advance for your help

Medium scotch brite wheel, and a sisal/cloth buffing wheel with a 400 grit compound should get rid of the light scratches and restore the satin finish. You can purchase these from knifemaking suppliers and use a bench motor from a common bench grinder.

Thanks for the information. I am looking forward to giving this a try.

This group, after reading and lurking for a while,

Really tries to help people. I`m looking forward to meeting some of you and collecting a few knives along the way

Have a great day :)

Ok,

He we go,

Will the scotch brite wheel remove blade coating, like if I wanted to put a satin finish ona knife that was previously coated.

Or does it take something more abrasive. I guess heat is an issue as well.

Thanks in advance,

:)

If the blade is black, yes, the scotchbrite will take that right off, fast.

If you have a black coated blade, I don't see how you can remove scratches without damaging the black finish.

Thanks,

The knife I wanted to remove the coating on is not a Busse.

I`m sure they are set up at Busse to do whatever your billfold would desire :)

I am finding that my interest in knives after a few years of trading and collecting is growing into, wanting to make one for myself.

And to restore some that I already have.

Thanks for the help,

Michael
