I have a Becker Campanion that I am wanting to modify a little. I have been soaking it in a finish stripper I found on sale at Wal-Mart for $5.00, and it has been soaking since Monday night. I removed it from the soak this afternoon and used a stainless steel scrubbing pad on it and almost all the black coating came off, with the exception being a couple of spots on the handle. I put it back in to soak some more and plan to remove it tonight, if time, or tomorrow after work. It has a gray apperance to the steel after I removed the black today and washed it off with some soap and water. My questions are;
1. does the gray sand off?
2. I plan to start off with 220 grit and work up to 400 or 600 grit. Will that give me a satin finish as that is what I want.
3. I know that you will get best results if you sand in only one direction, but does that apply to all grits or just the last one or two?
4. I would like to have some micarta grips made or locate some of the ones Camillus made, and I also though about having a false edge , or swedge put on the blade, who could do that?
All my questions at this point. I just want to try and make a one-of-a-kind with this Becker and may even think about a nice leather sheath down the road. Any and all suggestions are really appreciated!
