Amazingly Google is not a big help for finding a method to doing this or my search skills suck, Ha. I was wondering if you guy's can point me in the right direction on how to properly and beautifully do this. I have DF and an RTAKII that needs this done since the finish is worn severely. From what I gathered its a combination of sandpaper grits and scotch brite multiple directions and pressures...

Thanks fellas.

i use these combi wheels made by 3m. you can see them at the bottom of this page at this link. http://mysite.verizon.net/ress6fq6/id22.html you can google these numbers and find them. 051144 / 80678 120 combi-s red combination wheel. 048001 / 05974 A-MEDIUM cpfb-s gold wheel. i found an ace hardware store in my search that had them for about $20. each. sometimes i use a different method to put a satin finish on using a worn sanding belt but you need a belt sander to do it.

http://gbrannon.bizhat.com/ may be useful.

Note that the page is sorta confusing, but the middle section becomes a separate window and you scroll down to "finishes"

Wow, that is an awesome site Ortho! thanks ALOT man for that page. Cant believe how much it covers, in fact alot of what he covers is what I would be asking here :P You da man

I printed out those models and being that I have an Ace about 2 1/2 miles from me im now on my way :P thanks alot for the wheels, I never knew they had a scotch wheel only seen the stripper ones. I do have a sanding belt (upright) that I just purchased from Harbor Freight and recently got my 350/800/1200 grit belts so I might have to try that out too. Man thanks a ton for those wheels and all your help guy's :D

feel free to email me if you need any more help. if you use a drill make sure to go with the edge when using thoes wheels so it doesnt catch. maybe clamp the blade to a table with a board supporting the blade underneath. it would be a lot safer this way too. i put a drill chuck on my high speed buffer and carefully pass the blade across the wheels.

Hey Rich and fellas, I decided to do it by hand. It's taking me a few hours to get it to this place but it's coming along. So far I've used: Scotch brite from a sponge with a little Mothers polish and red rubbing compound from Turtle Wax to keep it clean whilst I'm doing this lol, then moved on to 800 grit wet/dry on an orbital hand held sander, then touched it up a bit with some 1000 grit and Mothers again. I left a bit of the carbon from the HT where it read RTAKII above the handle as I like the contrast. I did buff it a bit but left it in the grind. I have a horrible camera so bare with me...

good job on the finish. it takes some time by hand for sure. my hands would have cramped if i done that one by hand.

Thanks alot Lycosa!

Yeah Rich, I think after years of polishing little things in my engine bay my hands get a little adjusted haha. I don't even recall really taking a break either. I'm pretty darn happy with it as it's my first time ever finishing a knife. I just figured if I screwed it up I can just send it back for a re-coat ya know.

Anyhow thanks for the kind words fellas
