This was asked not too long ago and the answer was it is not possible until after the current exclusive option for the Canadian dealer runs its course. Not necessarily definite after that, just possible.
As far as the Recon goes, we have discussed making it uncoated however, we're not yet allowed to due to the exclusivity with Blades Canada. As far as other models, Lynn really enjoys the coated blades because of how much more tough it makes them in every regard. It has nothing to do with cost and everything to do with functionality. The amount of people that buy knives and don't maintenance them is staggering. There is a whole big world of consumers outside of Bladeforums that are not "into knives" and don't know how to clean and oil, etc. It's much more effective to have a coated blade and be more protected against rust and scratching. As always, we discuss these types of things regularly and weigh our options. Ultimately it is Lynn's decision and I have no idea what direction that will take going forward.
It’s kinda an odd(not smart) decision to do a highly demanded satin version as an exclusive for a retailer that has a much smaller market. This was asked not too long ago and the answer was it is not possible until after the current exclusive option for the Canadian dealer runs its course. Imagine Spyderco only produces black DLC version of Paramilitary 2 and only do Satin version for as exclusive for Bladehq... Oh wait, they recently made similar dumb decisions to make Para 2 tanto exclusively for Bladehq.
I ve got a clip point and spear point version, and they re very nice. I m not surprised that the retailer is out of the spear point blade.Bit the bullet and picked up a satin clip point. This thing is nice. Hopefully everyone else will do their part so we can get more.
