I've been searching for the perfect all-around fixed blade for a while now. I have folders aplenty, all Cold Steel, and all excellent. I have neck knives and boot knives, and a couple of pricey pieces I'm honestly afraid to beat too hard, just because they're pretty.

I received my RC-4 today after a brief but intense period of anticipation. As soon as I slid it out of the package, I felt satisfied. It fits my hand perfectly. It has a solid, reassuring weight, but excellent balance. The blade is long enough to handle real work, but no so big as to get in its own way. I like the dry, slightly rough texture of the linen micarta scales. There's a certain stalwart elegance to the feel of them. I even got excited about the MOLLE back for the sheath, since it lets me carry the knife horizontally, which gets it out of my way but keeps it accessible. The overall package is a fantastic piece of kit, and I look forward to beating the living hell out of it at every opportunity as I enjoy and share with my kids all the woods lore my father taught me.

And now for the gratuitous knife shots :D:

Welcome. Nice setup you got going. the pack looks great and the knife...Well the RC-4 speaks for itself.

Looking good!

Like that gun also.

Oh, and those are canvas micarta scales, not picking nits, just saying.

Nice! That holster looks kind of like it's from Rob Leahy of Simply Rugged Holsters? I have one for a 3" GP-100 and it's exactly what the name says....simple....and rugged. :D

You made a great choice, just get ready for the ensuing addiction to follow :D

Canvas? CANVAS?!? :barf: Into the bin it goes!

Good eye, adaman04. The holster is a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake. I picked up one of Rob Leahy's Real Man Belts with it, and it's become my favorite everyday gun belt, too.

The gun is a Ruger Redhawk in .45 Colt (because John Wayne would approve). I hike, fish, and hunt in bear country, so I feed it 325 gr. +p loads from Buffalo Bore.

The pack is a Wanderer from Duluth Pack.

And the background is my Filson Foothills Parka, which is like walking around inside your own private shelter when it's nasty out.

Thanks for the welcome!
