Burton and Ed drove down, from Columbus. My good friend Moon Munjas also stopped by on Saturday.
I had welded up a dry weld billet, using 15 layers of 1084 and 15n20 the night before.
We had the forge fired up by 8:30 and put the billet in to soak. It was up to temp[2200fh] in about 25 minutes.
The press was turned on and the billet was welded. The sides where the 1/8" mild steel was welded, to encase the billet bulged out and were cut away with a right angle grinder after the first heat.
The billet was drawn out to 10 inches; the welded edge was ground smooth and we looked it over with a 100 power microscope.
The weld was beautiful.
We talked knives the rest of the day and got a little work done too.
Lets do it again soon guys, Fred
Ed was telling Burton a dirty joke here that had something to do with the hardy hole. I didn't catch it all.
