Very interesting BAS. I don't know I've seen any with a Chiruwa-style handle and no bolsters! A unique piece for anyone's collection.

this is actually my dream khkuri of all time.....

i wanted a slab only Khukuri, but never got around to custom ordering one when uncle bill was around.....and i know that HI doesn't really take custom orders any longer....so i thought this khukuri would only exist in my dreams.....it's like santosh read my mind when making this blade.....

Nice, and I really like the split-loop belt loop for blades that are carried on the belt.

....and i know that HI doesn't really take custom orders any longer....

You sure? Unless something's changed very recently, they still take customs. Takes a while to get them, but that's the nature of the beast. In fact, a lot of the blades I see on the DOTD seem to have come from members asking if something could be made, getting a copy, then everyone else having to have one. . .

BTW, enjoy, that looks like one hell of a nice kuk! ('Course they all do in one way or the other. I'm turning into a real kukri whore. . .LOL)

Special orders are still available. Just be patient and hope the kamis fulfill your dreams.

i got it!!!! sent payment, and should receive it sometime next week.....i'm guessing wednesday....

this khukuri is not your normal chiruwa.....this khukuri might have the strongest handle/blade juncture ever produced at HI.....

usually all khukuris, standard or chiruwa handled, come with bolsters.....to accomodate these bolsters, rectangular cutouts must be made in the handle blade juncture.....these cutouts are made at 90 degree angles, which create potential weak spots and stress risers....

this khukuri lacks a bolster, and therefore lacks the corresponding cutouts in the blade stock found in standard khuks....ie, no weak spots.....

and in no way am i sayin that standard HI khuks are weak.....the standard HI khuk is 10 times stronger than a knife needs to be......it's just that this particular chiruwa BAS is 20 times stronger.....

bolster-less khukuris, wow......

The shoulders don't need to be square to be fit with a bolster so long as the bolster is inlet to match the contour. At least, I'm banking on that being the case. That's how I'm doing the bolster on my AK re-handle!

personally, i've removed about 2 bolsters from 2 different khuks.....

a 16.5" chiruwa AK, and a custom 15" chiruwa sirupati that came without handle rings......

both had squared off shoulders that i dremeled down.....i wish i could explain better.....

Interesting enough, all the reports I've heard of blades cracking, it's always been the cho that was the weak link, not the squared shoulder near the bolster. I think it's a non-issue.

I'm sure there's a small radius, something like 1/16.

I think we would see many more failures if it was a perfect 90° angle.

like i said, i've removed two bolsters from two different HI khuks, and the shoulders were not radiused....they were 90 degrees.....

but, i doubt that this would lead to blade failure......your standard khuk is not going to fail.....my point was that this BAS is even stronger than your standard khuk, because the lack of bolster, eliminates one more potential weak spot.....
