If some of you ever wondered where my screen name came from, well here's where. I own an International 14 foot class sailboat called RIOT!. These are a prestigious high performance racing dinghy with over 100 years of international status. Of course the modern boats are a bit faster... For a grasp of the speed these things can achieve, take note of the jimbouy passing by at mintue 5:10. This is fun, but mild conditions. This is not me or my boat, but very similar. It is a very atheltic boat, after each tack and jibe you nitce the skipper hanging by hand until the crew hooks him up to the trapeze wire. These are one of the few classes with a positive sail to weight ratio. That means more square feet of sail to pounds of sailing weight including the crew!

I am officially jealous :D

I'm still a few years out from buying my dream boat -- and yes, I will likely buy the boat before my first car.

Now that looks like fun! He didn't give that buoy too much room, lol! That is a serious boat, I have heard they are very high performance. My father in law had a C15.

You may have to contact my bro in law for one, he makes hydrofoil boats and wakeboards! Cool video!|

Check this, this is my brother in laws work.

Foilboarding! filmed in Prickly Bay, Grenada. I lived in this Bay for a year or so, fun place.

Hydrofoil Sailboat from scratch! Also filmed in Grenada, fun place. My bro in law built this on a dock with only a few tools, he taught me a lot about epoxy and fiberglass.

Ok, its is hard to deny the awesomeness of the foiling Moth! I sailed a few of them back before they allowed foils, and let me tell you, those are delicate and highly tuned boats! They can actually capsize over the transom! They are another old class, originally designed to be built with one sheet of plywood.

I still own and am drivng my first car, my Chevy Tahoe! I owned 15 boats before I did a car! I bought low, fixed them up and sold high, til I got enough to buy my I14. That was great til my crew left town to go to college (the audacity!) So I bought two interntional Contender dinghies which are a single handed class. I sail my Contender much more these days than the 14, but never enough. My two are called RAMPAGE! and WILDFIRE! I am sure you have noticed a theme with my boat names, they are all named after a calamity of sorts.

Here's a video of the International Contender. They still make these from wood and they are the winningest in the class! I think these are beautiful boats.

Thanks for reminding me!

I was looking at those a while back. The contender is just a wee bit more within my reach in terms of cost... I don't think I've seen a sailworthy (but no longer competitive) moth for less than 10k on the used market

My dad owns a Dart, and a laser, so that's where most of my sailing is done these days, though I race 420s on occasion (used to sail pirates).

Dude, I highly recommend the Contender. Its easy to sail but hard to sail well. Two people can fit on it for fun sailing, but it really excells when reaching, in a broad reach (apparant wind angle of 110*-140*) this thing is like a 74 cadillac going down a steep hill! It just goes all nice and comfy like, but then you try to turn a bit too fast and over you go! I believe there is a fleet at Kingston, head down there and talk to the guys. We are always looking for prospective racers and boat owners. If you want I can dig up some contacts in your area and get you some email addresses.

Or if you ever make it out here, give me a shout out and I'll let you take mine for a ride!

Ok, crash time! Sailboat crashes can be just as spectacular as NASCAR sometimes!

This is a crazy one. I was there that day, I was doing a double handed round the farallon islands and back. We dropped out because of extreme conditions, 25-30' high breakers in open water and I was on a 24' boat. A Moore 24 if your interested in looking them up, its a west coast classic design.

Anyways, the spot this guy tries to sail through is a bad idea on calm days, but when you see guys surfing, its a really bad idea! I got to watch this happen from the parking lot. The skipper has a reputation before this of being a moron, now it is firmly planted!

These are the biggest waves I've ever been in. we would have sailed, but one of the permanent crew forgot to issue us lifejeackets.... As I recall it was blowing 40, gusting 55-60 (knots).

To give a better sense of scale, the ship is 104 feet long... and I'm standing, with the camera, about 15 feet from the stern.

Good stuff!

That was a nice skate video, those dudes are good!

I didn't know the moth was a one sheet boat, those are cool.

Tourettes Guy! This is classic, haven't seen this in a while.
