Other than putting edges and making sheaths both these knives are done. Both were hand forged out of 5160. One I'm pretty sure one was from some John Deer axle or drive shaft steel I got from Dan Gray a few years ago and the other a piece of a big coil spring Goddard had given me. Both chunks of steel were forged down during the short period of time that I had the press before the fire. I'm not sure which is which now. Anyway the larger knife has a 8 1/2" blade, iron fittings, and a ebony handle. Its 14" overall. The other one has a 6 1/2" blade I left with a cleaned up forge finished, iron fittings, and curly maple handle and its 12 1/2" overall. Both knives weight around 12oz.

Ray,

My favorite is the larger, like that big sweeping belly, and the looks of the carbon finish against the iron and Ebony.

VERY nice Ray, I especially like the larger ebony one.

Beautiful piece...

I agree with Jeff they look like they were made from another era, I've seen lots of pictures of Ray's work the last few years. But last year at Atlanta I finally got to see and handle Rays knives first hand and I was overwhelmed, believe me, his pictures don't do his knives any justice at all.
Beautifully done once again Ray. I'm glad to see you got that fish'in trip out of your mine. LOL

Bill, That Dragon Lake fishing trip in BC was by far the best fishing trip I have ever taken. Hard to believe you can catch fish like we were catching and its 2008. I did go fishing again last weekend at a local lake not quite two hours east of where I live. Caught lots of fish but maybe a third as large as what we caught in Canada. Here's a picture of one of the largest Dragon Lake fish we caught. Larry caught this one but the big one I caught was larger. :D Forgot to mention this is a rainbow trout.
