They say a picture is worth 1000 words, so here's 5000 words about what I did on Saturday. ;)

You made yourself a Kabar space force knife? No heat treatment at all??

For stock removal with an angle grinder, that is pretty clean looking.

Angle grinder, then bench grinder and files.
Further refined over the last bunch of days (higher grind as part of it), and at heat treat place as of today.

Nitro-V steel.
Will have Royal Blue G10 scales eventually.
Have to make a Kydex sheath for it too (need to buy more Kydex).

It's a design my dad did which tweaks the TDI design to produce a blade mid-size between the small and the large.
He liked the large TDI I got him, but it can be uncomfortable when sitting.
The small TDI had a blade a tad small for his liking, and was not hand-filling enough.
He also wanted a different jimp pattern for utility use.

I made him one already, but as it's the only one in the world, he got concerned about losing it. Simplest solution was to make another one. :)

There's a whole heap of sanding coming up in my immediate future...

And the next Saturday (today!):

Heat treat is done.

The other pokey item is made from a piece of the scrap steel from last knife I made for my dad.
It sat on the ground through the winter (getting kind of rusted in spots), and I decided to see what I could make from that triangle.
Sat around for awhile, and turned out to be really great for untying knots in laces and rope. :)
Now it is fully heat treated too.

Tip on the knife will get centered fully during finishing process.
No rush, since G-10 and Kydex will take a while to get here.

This knife is designed to slash in reverse grip with your weak hand, if needed to protect the weapon on your strong site.

Just saying… Of course, you can use your blade any way it pleases you…:thumbsup:

Regular grip far better for utility use though, and dad wants it for regular knife use.
He just really likes the ergonomics of the design. :)
