As I was saying in Mikes Thread I went to the range yesterday with some friends. There were 5 of us, 4 guys and 1 girl, my friend Shanna. She loves .22's and my Henry Frontier model Lever gun. She's pretty much claimed it as heres for every range trip, though she will let us use it once in a while. LOL!!

Here's the list of guns

Ruger Single Six 5.5"
Beretta U22 Neos 4.5" With Millet Red Dot
Ruger 10/22 DSP
Henry H001T Frontier Model 20" Ocatagon barrel
Marlin 1894C .357 Magnum 18" Barrel with Skinner Peep Sight

Targets included

2 Rolled oat Containers filled with sand/durt
Clay pigions
#10 can,
2 Liter Soda bottle
Empty Ammo box
Spent 12 gauge shell

After setting up the targets we all loaded a gun and started shooting. I had to sight in the Marlin so I shot it first. All the guns were loaded with CCI Bulk .22 or Remington bulk .22. Except the Marlin which we shot 50 rounds of Magtech 158 grain flat nose .357 Mag and 50 rounds of Independance Flat nose 158 grain .357 Magnums.

I installed the Skinner Peep sight a few weeks ago, this is the first time I've been able to sight it in. Went shooting last week but that was just .22 and hand guns. This week was about .22 and the Marlin. I left the factory blade installed just to see how high the gun would shoot and also because I don't have the tool to change it yet. Though I do have the matching replacement front blade. Anyways using a peep sight on this gun is great! Put the bead just below what you want to hit and pull the trigger, so easy!! I'm wondering if I can get a peep sight for my Henry now.

Everyone had a great time and did pretty good. We were only shooting at targets about 75 feet away but it was still great! Everyone really liked the Marlin loaded with 158 grains. Shooting the Oat containers full of sand was just awesome. Big clouds of dust would fly and the containers were normally flipped over or tossed back a few feet. Shanna mostly shot at the #10 can and blew it to bits. Looks like it was hit by something much bigger, she totally blew the back out of it. She says the first time she hit it with the Marlin was the funnest, it jumped about 3 feet into the air and about 1 foot back, she wasn't expecting it.

After shooting we gathered the brass and targets, cleaned up and left. Went to Wendy's for dinner then a Super Market for Ice cream. We got home way later then planned but it was so worth it. Next time we go, we'll bring at least 2 cars (We crammed all of us into a 1992 Civic it was cramped) and my grill. Thinking of doing Chicken or Hamburgers. I'm formatting and sizing pictures now, will post them in a bit.

My File host is downright now for software upgrades and DNS stuff so I'll just post a few pictures through BFC for now then add more later.

This place is really populare for camping and shooting. There was a family just over the ridge from us shooting and We think camping or four wheeling. One of the reasons why we were only shooting between 70 and 100 feet. Didn't want to get to close to the other guys.

And here I am shooting my Henry. Shanna finally letting one of us guys shoot it for a change. LOL!!

As you can see from the pictures, we all have hearing and eye protection. Thats a Must for all of my shooting trips. We have a designated firing line, and hearing and eye protection for all. Then we also try to do the reloading at the table so everyone knows whats going on. After you're done shooting check to see if others need to finish then check to see if people want to reset targets before the next round. Safety first!! Will post more pictures and a few short video clips after my server gets back online.

Beautiful shots- you had way more fun than I did, Heber. Friends are the frosting on the fun cake.

Love that Henry .22.

Mike

How do you like the Marlin? My wife wants one because of the size and weight. She carries a .357 so the caliber would be convenient. They used to make the compact in .44, but I can't find one.
Terry

Terry, the Marlin is a lot of fun and the Skinner sight makes it even better. My shoulder is a little sore from shooting it, but it was so worth it. I'm slowly getting used to shoot a rifle bigger then a .22LR.

Mike, the Henry sure is fun if you don't have one, you should get your self one. Could have gone shooting with just one person but thought it would be funner to fill the car. The more the marrier when you have enough guns to go around. Glad we all went.

Eric, the range is a really nice hill on the south side of Utah lake. Definantly prettier and cooler then the shooting range up the canyon about 15 minutes. The local outdoor range is carved out of the mountain and rather nice, but the one by the lake has it beat as far as Looks and temp.

Looks like a real fun time!

Just a suggestion. It does look like everybody was being safe, and your requirement for loading at the table is a good one. I would also make it a habit for each person to observe for another when loading or unloading.

IOW, when one person is loading or unloading, another person should stand by and observe what the shooter is doing to be certain that safe habits are used, such as muzzle control, trigger safety, and proper unloading.

You'd be amazed what folks can miss when they are distracted by other people!

Nice pics, thanks for sharing!

True I'd put the muzzle facing the ground when loading.

Thats a good idea. And as you can see from the picture Lee did just that with the Ruger Single Six. Shanna would have loaded the Henry that way, but the Tub magazine doesn't allow for it. That gun must be loaded while the muzzel is facing up.

There is a chance that I'll go shooting this afternoon. I have a Job interview at 6:30pm and if the friends can get me back intime for it, I'll go. If not I'll stay home. If I go, I'll take more pictures. :)

Heber, looks like a scene from singles ward.

LOL!! Yeah it does. On the way home from shooting we were actually joking about starting a Singles Ward Shooting club.

You want to come next time? If you're in Utah, we have room for an extra shooter.
