Although I find Saturn a beautiful planet to observe I find Jupiter more interesting. Saturn always looks the same except for the angle of the rings where as Jupiter always looks different because of its moons. Saturn seems to take magnification a little better than Jupiter. Here are a couple of shots I have taken of the planet Saturn.

Very, VERY good shots of Saturn! Wow!
Do you have very dark nights where you live?

I live in the suburbs and the sky is very dark at night. That is one of the reasons I moved out here. There is not much light pollution which makes viewing the planets ideal.

Lucky you!
I live in the suburbs too, but there is a LOT of light pollution. To get a dark night I should figure out how to shut off the electricity in a 10 km radius arround my home :D

Exquisite. Question. How long of an exposure is that and is that what you see in your eyepiece or is a long exposure needed for that much detail. Did that make any sense? :D

Try a light pollution filter, sometimes it helps. Lumicon makes some good ones.

It made sense. I don't need any long exposure time to photograph the planets. I use color filters to bring out the detail and the view through the scope is good but not as good as when you process the picture.

Is it me or does Saturn look completely fake? Its surface and rings looks way too perfect to be so natural. Awesome shots as usual Larry. The first one is my favorite.

Sometimes when I look at Saturn through my scope it doesn't look real. It is too perfect looking. It is hard for me to get much resolution in the rings, thats why they look fake in my opinion. There are millions of ringlets that I can't see but I am glad that I can see the Casini division.

Wowsers Larry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing pictures!
What really gets me is the absolute blackness of space!

I think it's the short exposure time, combined with the software filtering. You need a longer exposure to catch fainter objects. Might be the wrong guess though :)

Good guess. You need a longer exposure time to seen the dimmer objects. The eyepiece's I use also make the background darker which shows the planets better.

Nice shots Larry. You must be in Suffolk to get that clarity. Almost non-existent in Nassau.
