Sausage, Melon, Doctor?

A client brought this over the other day and asked if I wanted it for a pattern
I'm guessing it was a melon, or sausage sampler and obviously an advertising
knife. Wouldn't be a far stretch to also become a doctor. What I thought was
cool about it was a blade that long sits dead center and no play,
other than the crack in the delrin the knife works pefectly closed 4 5/8", open 8 1/2"
enjoy. Ken

Ken,

I would guess a melon tester considering the size and advertising script.

You maybe able to find out more in Levine's forum.

Ken

I have always called them a melon tester too. Always thought they were cool, but have never added one to my creche. ;).

I guess I just do not eat enough melons (or I usually use fixed blades to cut 'em).

I am guessing that that one is from the early '60's give or take 3 years.

Also sausage tester!!
No one has come forward to tell me exactly how they are used to TEST sausages though:confused:

That is a Schrade 102?
I can't read the model # to well
You can see the "razor blade" logo/etch:thumbup:
They made a Model 105 which is longer (I think)
I think the blank (non advertising) ones are worth more
Although I'm sure there are people out there who collect advertising knives....

The logical progression would of course, be a testes doctor, but I'm not about to suggest that.:foot:

I've seen knives like the example called "Fruit knives, Sausage Tester and Fruit/Sausage Tester."

That one is in beautiful shape!

I believe it falls under the pretty generic term "Fruit Knife." Just a simple thing long blade knife for sampling fresh fruit.

Coincidentally that crack near the pivot is very common.

That's definitely a fruit test alright. AG also makes a modern one just that's close to it.

Interesting, I have never really seen delrin crack.

God Bless

It does look like the 105 I have at home. It is maybe an 1" or so longer than that one.
It also has the same blade etch.

Ken, you could probably knock some of those out while you were sleeping. ;) :D

that msut be the knife my grandparents used when teanagers to gou out in the watermelon feild (illegally) and get the seeds out of the biggest watermelon because they were the best seeds

I have a Schrade Walden quite similar to that of yours. My knife though has two blades. A 3 1/2in. spear point blade and a smaller pen blade on the opposite end. The handle is etched 1968 SNOBOY Display Award. The tang is etched SS700 stainless on one side, the other side has Schrade Walden, NY U.S.A.. The main blade also has the razor blade stainless etched on it. Nice knife!

In Europe, large cheeses are tested with a similar type of knife. Well, fruit&cheese are a fine combination anytime!

At a knife show about 4 years ago, saw the same knife with a meat company's name on it. Definitely a sausage tester in that incarnation :)
