Just back in the shack from my twilight hike with Aiko and Jake.
The sun dropped over the western ridge just as the dogs and I where headed out to hike the ridge we live on.
In a small hollow just a about a quarter of a mile down the primitive trail there was a nice six point whitetail buck looking to bed down in the shelter of the thicket growing in this hollow on a windy evening.
Aiko spied the buck first, and the dogs held tight as we watched the fine creature.
I think our scent on the gusty winds gave us away, as our silent party became the attention on the buck.
It moved off down the ridge, giving us one final glance as it move down slope into thicker vegetation.
Further down the trail, we spotted a bunch of young turkeys working the forest floor.
From our spot high on the ridge they where not aware of us.
After a few minutes Aiko had enough and had to open her mouth,
...this sent the birds gliding down-slope into the tops of some oaks.
We moved along to a spot where I often stop and enjoy the view toward the valley below.
I waited here until the Full Hunter's Moon crested the ridge we where on.
The hike back was bathed in the light of that beautiful full moon rising over the landscape.
I hope you all get out to gather the strength of that Full Hunter's Moon.
Big Mike
