Hey guys,

I'm wondering, would this be a good place for a visit with a young kid? Looking for a great weather, friendly relaxed atmosphere.

Any tips on this as a short vacation spot?

My wife and I loved it. We went a couple years ago, and we were able to park our car and spend the next 3 or 4 days walking everywhere we wanted to go. The ghost walks were pretty cool, and very interesting. I'm sure they have numerous family-friendly ones. Ours was a pub crawl.....so, not so fantastic for a youngin':D

Incredibly gorgeous, very educational, and just a very nice micro-vacation.

Just got back from the Savannah "Hidden Gardens" walk on Sat. Gardens & flowers beautiful, weather perfect and the architecture incredible.

Not so sure about attractiveness to a child. Beaches are 45 min away & seem OK (I'm in Florida & consequently spoiled); interesting Railroad Museum, and great Book & Antique stores but not a lot for kids.

For a grown-up getaway it is perfect. Oh, the food & libations are great.

You might want to read Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil before you go or on the way.

Lived there for 5 years....worked with the folks that inspired the "Book" (see post above)...and was there for the filming of it.

Crazy place - loved it.

Go in April/May or Oct/Nov. Perfect weather, plenty to do. Be sure to drop by Tybee Island. 2 beaches - north beach is more kid-friendly.

Oh yeah, October is a great month to go. Tee shirts and jeans, and I was cool enough for the sun and comfortable enough after the breezes started to blow in. Tybee was fun as well. We were there for the pirate festival or whatever it was. That was kinda fun.

We also ran into Crazy Mary, the lady that inspired one of the characters in "Garden". She did not like our tour guide one bit. Cursed him out, give him the stink eye, then did kung fu moves in the busy street. Supposedly she can be found just crashed out on one of the numerous park benches a lot of the time. I've also heard that she has the voice of an angel when she sings.

would actually recommend going an hour south down the coast to St. Simons Island--safer (especially w/ a young one), very low key and relaxing.
