Save me from temptation! (Record Vises)

Yea, though I walk down the aisle of tools, I shall not buy items I do not need!

Unless of course this is just too good a deal to pass up. Lowes started carrying both Wilton and Record shop vises. Well apparently they've now decided to do away with the Record vises. They have them on clearance. I can pick up a 6" Record bench vise, the one with the quick release jaws, for $84.00 (regularyl $159.00). A half turn of the screw to loosen and the jaw will then just slide open. You can also slide it shut and then snug it up with the scew. Nice!

I don't actually need a new vise but my 6" Craftsman bench vise is starting to show it's age and the jaws don't line up like they used to. hmmm... what do you guys think?
 
think i'm goin to lowes, is what i think!

record makes a damn fine vise...i have one on my woodworking bench as well as a smaller one that i picked up at eagle, before lowes bought them out, for $8 on clearance! both are solid as a 4" steel plated rock, very well machined...

at $84 you're getting a great tool that will last you a lifetime...i wouldn't even think twice about it...

Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind!:D The 4 inch is on clearance for $74.00. I'm going to have to sneak the 6" into the shop as it is. (Oops, I forgot, my wife often checks these forums too! She hasn't lately so I'll keep my fingers crossed!:D )
 
well i just got back from picking up my new record 6"...thanks for the heads up!

i'll get the 4" when they take another 50% off...:cool:
 
Man, I was gonna sit the evening out with a good book! Now I have to run out to Lowes?! Dang you Guy! Ruined another perfectly fine evening...

Read a good book????? Get back into the shop and start grinding that Corian! After you get back from Lowe's of course! (You'd better take a sled and some dogs though, unless all that white fluffy stuf has turned to black mushy stuff!) Oh, have I mentioned the pear trees out front are blooming here and we had to turn the air conditioner on yesterday?:D
