Just finished this guy up. It's an antique American made rasp very similar to 1095, copper furniture and elk antler.

I messed up on the sheath. I don't know what I was thinking but I wanted the belt loop to be high ride and didn't notice that the sheath will need stitched right through the belt loop. I figured this out right when I cut the leather out of course and didn't want to waist my leather so I told myself I'd figure it out. So the caddy is extra. It's bolted on the back with Chicago screws. Not ideal but I think it turned out pretty good for a mistake.

The sheath mistake. My belt loop is only 3/4" wide. Not very many man belts that small. Any advise or tips on a better solution, I'm all ears.

Thanks for looking and thanks for your time,

Nice save on that one, I think it all worked out just fine. I would bet that sheath will last as long as the knife does. Good job and thanks for sharing.

You could have tapered the belt loop on each side relieving 1/2" to 3/4" leaving a "T" at the bottom of the loop to give you sufficient room to stitch without hitting the belt loop and it would have been secured by the "T" at the bottom with the edge stitches. Dwayne (Leatherman) has used this type system I believe with great success. He may be able to post a photo.

Ah yes! Took me a bit to figure it out, loooong day today, but yes here is what Paul it talking about I think. :)

You see how the loop is cut out along the side. Its essentially a full fold over that is skived down on each end so its no thicker than the single piece of leather. No fuss, no muss.

Nice work Todd and good save, ya made it work. Very clever Dwayne, lke that deal too. Todd the whole outfit looks good, knife, sheath and carrier on the Marlin. Another thought ya could of done a true Mexican loop sheath that would of incorporated the belt loop without having to stitch it down. Should be getting the holster back anytime. I wrote out my thoughts and mailed em back to ya with the holster. Just realized that concho had a copper penny center. Thats cool and really goes with the knife. Copper is kinda in right now. Been getting lots of requests for copper buckles, conchos etc on things particularly spur straps.

The network of help here is very awesome and unmatched. It's an honor to be among the company here.

Again, thank you all so much.

Dave, I look forward to the letter...

Love the knife and sheath (screw-up or no) Do rasp/file knives beat up the inside of the sheath a lot?

The rasp definately needs the edges on the tang beveled and the teeth knocked off the rasp and file part. I think if you try to, the rasp will eat away the leather but if the rasp is ground down reasonably and proper care is taken when sheathing the knife, it shouldn't be hard on the leather at all.

I have always liked the looks of a rasp knife, yours has that classic look. Very well done. :)

I think it looks really nice!! The only screw up it the scope on a lever action rifle :). Just kidding:)
