Hi all,

Is it possible to save a webpage, with the pictures, etc, and keep it on a hard drive even as it is being updated on the web site? Other than by doing a screen capture?

Thanks,

Joss

What web browser are you using? If you are using Firefox, try WebMynd. It works quite well.

The only way would be to place a shortcut on your desktop to the website.
This can be done with the following steps:
File > Send > Shortcut to desktop.

Whenever clicking on the IE link from your desktop, in order to visit the website, you must be connected to the internet.

Otherwise there is a more sneaky approach, but I would have to get into details and this may lead to me getting banned from BF.

Cuphead - what I want to save is the page as it looks like *now*. I want to be able to reference this version when the page online is updated.

As I stated in the previous message, the only way to see updates from your PC is to place a shortcut, because if you save the page's HTML content, you will no longer be able to refresh for updates, as it will be on your HD, and as we know webmasters upload to a host, therefor not directly updating via your PC.

So if you do File> Save as> index.html

It will save and html document and also it will create a directory where all the images/css will be stored.. on your PC.
The downside about this will be most likely that the url wont appear in the address bar. instead you will see C://blah/blah/index.html
However. since the content was save as it appears online, you should be able to click on links of the index file which should redirect you to the appropriate page via web.

But I still think the best way to proceed would be to execute ie.exe and go to the page you want to save as a reference, and do File > Send > Shortcut to desktop, because when you click on it, the page will automatically load with the updates.. which is simple and faster... just my 0.02$

I know a couple exploits for ebay that allow you to buy for cheaper if the seller doesn't pay too much attention to their transactions. Oooops did I say that??

Okay, that's easier. Click "file" then "save as." :)

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

Joss,

What you're looking for is offline browsing. I've not used any of the software on this page
but there are more than a few freeware programs that will do what you want.

Maybe I've misunderstood the request -

But on my IE7 all I do is click on Page on the toolbar (toward the top left of the IE frame) and do a Save As ... .

IE offers the saving in different formats/file types - but the default is normally the optimal.

Save the page with the default - then try displaying the saved page while off-line and see if it worked properly - if it did fine, if not, then try another format - probably webpage complete option would do it.

I use HTTrack too. You can even whack password sites with a little finesse. Some pages with lots of script based navigation don't whack well.

Click File/Save As, and then in the next dialogue box - Save as Type, choose 'Webpage Complete'. This saves the html page and all the background, gifs and jpgs in a separate folder.

In MSIE try this:
File, Save As
...then in the "Save As Type" box select Web Archive *.MHT
This will save the entire page with all pics, etc and it will be only ONE file on your hard drive!
In other words there will be no messing around with folders and files...just a single file like XYZ.mht
