Saving knife boxes

Does anyone save the boxes or tubes new knives come in? I have always thrown them away until lately I have saved a few GEC tubes. I usually put the knives in pistol cases when not being used.

The reason I ask this question is when looking at marketplace ads it seems to be favorable to include the original packaging, so that made me curious.

My thinking is a person can only keep so much crap and I've got enough as it is, so out the packaging goes. I do not wish to start a right vs wrong thread just looking for perspective.

If this has been discussed into submission somewhere previously please disregard.

The box and papers make for a complete package, increasing collector value. It's that simple.

Makes sense to me. There is currently a thread about crappy packaging from a major manufacturer that made me go hmmm.

I save them so when I kick off, my kids can create BF accounts and come here with all my knives and boxes and the folks will tell them what every thing is. Then they'll get a Gold membership and sell them off to the appreciative members who are right now all interested in other styles but by then will be into my kind of knives.

That's how it plays out in my head any way. :)

I keep boxes. They don't take up a lot of room if you store them right. The ones that will fold flat get banded together in bundles with pony tail bands (the cloth covering doesn't stick to the boxes like a rubber band will). Smaller boxes will fit inside bigger boxes, and so on. The boxes for my collection fit easily in two file boxes.

GECs tubes, on the other hand, just take up way more space than is reasonable. They get tossed in a plastic tote.

Yes I do. I save all my rifle scope boxes and pistol boxes and guitar boxes. I keep the recites in them too. I do have a good size garage though.

I've kept the boxes in the past because they seem to increase the resell value on knives. Handy when I'm not sure it will be a keeper.

Personally, I find no value in the box. Like most, I've got enough crap cluttering up the house as it is. If not for the fear of losing money on resale I'd toss them all in the trash.

Eventually I'll sell all but a bucket-full and the general consensus is that you all want the packaging, so they're taking up space.

You are not alone!

A bunch of bare knives in a plastic shoe box is kinda meh.

A bunch of knives in their boxes in a plastic shoe box is pretty cool and nicely organized.

:D

Tossed the box and paperwork in the trash and dropped the knife in my pocket.
