Like all of you I like to keep my blades sharp. But I don't like to see the blades ware away. What's the best way to keep them sharp and use them without grinding away too much steel?

Without knowing many details about the steel or use(s) of your knives, my best advice (if possible) do not let them get 'dull.' I personally lightly strop my edc daily/one per week depending on the use/steel. My 112 BUCK with 420HC will likely require more 'attention' than my BM mini-grip in D2 if I really use it all day. It all depends on what you are cutting as well.

I agree..all knives wear out with use, but that factory profile/grind sure is nice. My 2 cents.

Haha...yes, if your knife costs you more than 10-20 dollars, stay away from cheap 'V' carbide sharpeners...though in an absolute pinch they are useful on a cheap steel

Any item that gets used will will wear away with time. The key factor is (use) X (time) = rate of wear. Goes for everything from clothes, tires, hammers, knives, etc. don't want your items to wear away, lelave them in a display case. Stropping and fine ceramic stones are only part of the solution, knowing how to sharpen knives with stones, guided systems, and power equipment is the bigger part.

Don't use carbide sharpeners EVER!!!!!
That is correct

No, there is never any reason to use those scrapers. Even a $2 pocket stone is better than those things. In a pinch you'd be better off using the bottom of a ceramic coffee cup or. Piece of sandpaper (400 grit or finer).

Try and touchup on whatever the last part of your progression was , your highest stone or strop. If that doesn't work then drop down one , and then come back up. Once you have bevel established you should not have to drop down to low grit stones very often if ever. Except when the time comes to thin out behind the bevel.
