WOW...I had no idea how nice these knives look in person. The pictures I've seen of them do not do them justice. I'm hooked; I'm going to get a Soldier. :)

You should see some of the metal-handled Classics. Very nice. You can even get a sterling silver Classic.

Please take a look at this thread -

Victorinox Farmer

There is actually a Soldier model with a keyring too -

Victorinox Soldier WITH Keyring?

Above are the full-sized 93mm models -

There are also the smaller 84mm models like the "minimalist" Bantam Alox -

One layer/backspring - so very thin at about 5mm or 0.2"

Thirteenth Star,
Best value in the knife world are the alox handled SAK in my opinion. The soldier is a great one to start with. You just can't go wrong with one of these little beauties!

Silver alox Vic SAKs like the Soldier sure are pleasing to the eye. You are in for a further treat when you see Vic's red alox models, such as the Pioneer in this link:

I stand corrected I carry a red Alox handled Pioneer :o on my key ring, & I love it.

I have been carrying one of these alox handled Farmer Plus for quite a while now. I chose this model with the potential need for a saw and an awl (punch) for unexpected circumstances. In place of a can opener (contrast the regular Farmer model) is a spey (wharnie?) blade with a small crescent cut out on the near side for wire stripping, pencil sharpening, making circular motion cuts around tubular objects, etc. The alox handles provide a warmer feel due to its texture. And appears to be riveted on for greater durability. Unfortunately it does not come with a ring attachment means. So I keep it nestled in my Mission wallet. I may just switch to the regular Farmer model for the ring attachment feature.

where can I get the alox Farmer and Soldier for cheap? thanks....

I loved my red alox soldier and had it for a couple years before my husband kidnapped it from me. He gets good used from it, so I allowed it.

As for where to find it, if you go to www.swissarmy.com they have each style and a 'buy it now' where you can get them off the internet. I deal with Chesapeake Knife & Tool which is on that list, for my stuff and they have them all.

It might be a bit late -
but the Soldier was on clearance sale at Target stores for $9.98 less than a month ago -

Victorinox Soldier for only $10!

Or you could wait for an occassional Victorinox sale at eKnifeworks.com (SMKW) - they've had 20% and 25% off all Victorinox.

If you can't wait, then at least look at a low price to aim for - use froogle.com to do a price search for

Victorinox Soldier -pouch
(the -pouch is useful as it eliminates all the pouches listed)
or by the Soldier's US model#
Victorinox 53929

and
Victorinox Farmer -pouch
Victorinox 53964

and order the results Price: low to high -
but watch out for high shipping costs.

I like the total prices (delivered costs) at DiscountKnivesOnLine.com
