I was watching a new martial arts flick, and caught a glimpse of an interesting looking bowie, that I thought you folks might find interesting. It appears to be some sort of a massive bowie, with a rough-forged look that reminds me a lot of some of our custom makers out there. The movie is called Wu Xia (Swordsmen), and is directed by Peter Chan, and stars Donnie Yen and Takeshi Kaneshiro. Good stuff.

My question is two-fold. First, have you seen a custom bowie/chopper that looks anything like this (or makers, if you've made one, I'd love to see it), and second, have you seen any other cool knives in a martial arts movie?

Wow that one there made me laugh. There are so many forums here at Bladeforums, and so much knowledge that can be dug up in a search and reading. In one such thread I remember someone lamenting a story about a very famous maker,,,,

He was at a knife industry function, and spoke to the crowd about his knives, work, or beliefs there-of. Anyway, he was talking about knife handles and said a knife "should feel as good as your own {edited to remove genital reference} does in your hand."

I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the handle on that thing.

I know, right? Best part is, this blade is wielded by Kara Hui (along with another just like it). Although on the other hand, it really more looks like a bone than a boner. I think if I were going to make a blade like this, I'd go with a slightly more standard looking handle... But that's a great story :)
