So I saw a few Schrade "old timer" and "texas longhorn" knives at a local retailer today. Not sure if the price was good or not...but I thought Schrades were supposed to be somewhat expensive, and these were priced around $20 each? Also saw a three-pack of Old Timer's for $34?

The knives didn't seem to be as nice as this case I have, or my boker, but what do I know.

Anyone know if it would be a good idea to pick these up, or are they just a dime a dozen?

I paid $32 for my 2nd hand old timer USA made. Seems like those Schrades might be new generation chinese stainless knives. Probably pretty nice users.

Cheap because they are likely made in outer Mongolia out of recycled soup cans. Good 'Ol USA Schrades are a different story...

I would pass. I'm sure they are the new production knives....

From what I've read, the people that bought them were less than thrilled.

Alright...feared as much. Sorry to open a new thread just to ask one question.

Thanks!

And if you have questions about the non USA knives with token Schrade markings, the USA Sub Forum is not the place for those discussions. However, do not disregard the possibility of finding Schrade USA knives in a retail outlet. It still happens, and while not generally low price, they will not likely be marked up from the last retail price. A genuine Schrade should have SCHRADE USA marked in the tang stamp, at least in almost every instance.

I saw some in a display in a hardware store near my brother in law the other day. USA made. At least the display ones were. When I go to check them out,if the ones inside are not marked USA I will ask for the display one.

If tang stamp has Schrade USA: buy every single usa made schrade you can, run for your life! :D
