I have an old 23” in diameter saw blade that I’d like to make into one of those so-called Serbian chef knives. If I’m carful to cut out on my bandsaw, hopefully not dicking up the temper, I shouldn’t have to heat treat...correct? Thanks, Phil
I'm thinking if it's soft enough to cut with a band saw, it's too soft to make a knife from. Also that whole "unknown steel" thing.... You could probably sell that blade (for a premium) to folks that paint them & make decorations, then order some known steel.

It s circular saw blade ,it must not break when spin and kill someone so they are not enough hard for knife .You will need to HT it ......It s steel for cutting wood , so it MUST be good steel for knife don t worry about that ..........
You can do that, but it'll make a much better knife if heat treated proporly. Hardness of the blades is generally around 47 Rc. I've made thousands of knives from old saw blades.
