Me and some other old guys go backpacking a few times a year and bring some tools for wood processing. We are fine on the axes and up til now we've always brought a 20" curved pruning saw for cutting small logs (up to 10"). Then we use the axe to split.

I'm wondering if there are vintage saws that you 'd recommend versus the pruning saw. The wood we cut is pine, oak and juniper.

Not interested in any of the folding saws as they are too small for the size of wood we cut. Don't get me wrong, the Bahco is a great saw in the proper situation but we need something beefier. Note: our hike in is only 2 miles so weight is not a big thing.

Not exactly the vintage saw you were looking for but have you looked at the Sven Saws? They break down for portability but are surprisingly sturdy and robust when assembled.

My 21" has taken anything I've thrown at it.

From my own experience using them, I'd have to second Steve's recommendation of Bob Dustrude's folding saw.

Silky Big Boy. If you are really cutting huge stuff you might even bring a Katana Boy. The Tajima 10" G-saw is a great little folding saw and a super fast cutter. Plus it's a lot cheaper than the Silky. You can keep your camp in firewood with a 10" Tajima.
