Greetings,
Called one of my dealers today and he advised he had gotten a satin PE 707 in and was holding it for my view. I spun the wheels and headed out. I had an opportunity to pick up a 705 satin PE a while back and turned it down since I knew the 707 was on the way, and I liked the look of the deeper blade.
Well, it was very good looking, out of the box. The inlays are well done. The grip is secure and the aluminum scales have a nice texture and finish (I know this will wear). The new blade is very impressive. Reminds one a bit of the blade shape on the Ritter Grips. The contrast between the scales, stainless skeletonized liners, and back spacer is appealing to me. The new pocket clip is attractive and appears to have a durable parkerized finish. It does look LARGE on this petite knife. Blade to handle ratio is incredible. This handle is smaller in circumference that the 705, since the aluminum scales are thinner.
One thing I noticed is that when you pull back on the Axis mechanism the blade raises out of the blade channel, exposing the tip and approximately 3/8 inch of the leading edge (not a problem unless you play with the axis with the blade facing your palm). The handle is very rigid and has no flex. There was no blade play at all, side to side, and the blade opened as smoothly as any BM I have ever opened. The blade was also perfectly centered. The blade miked exactly 2.90 (.05 shorter than advertised, and slightly shorter than the blade on my son's 555 mini-grip, which I knew had a shorter blade than the 705 I almost bought). Out of the box blade grinds and sharpness were excellent. This was the only 707 the store received. I always prefer to compare several of the same models when examining closely, as differences can be noted.
Other than the gripe about the slightly shortened blade, the knife is in my opinion, a good one....and yes, I bought it. I guess this turned into more of a mini-review than I intended.
Thanks,
