This past weekend a few friends and I stayed at lake Anna, VA, and visited the BSA National Jamboree at Fort AP Hill. As you all may know, the President spoke there yesterday to an audience of more than 70,000 Scouts and visitors. The closing ceremony started with a performances by a Scout band and talent show winners, then a Navy bluegrass band gave a great performance, and after some more entertainment President Bush arrived and spoke. As a proud Bush supporter I was thrilled to see the President. He gave a nice speech and shook hands with Scouts in the front rows.

What a great weekend. Boating, tubing, and catchimg catfish at Lake Anna and then seeing the President.
Only catch? A real bad sunburn.

The US Navy Bluegrass Band is quite famous. They're very good.

The Airforce has a jazz band that's very good too. The first time I attended an event where the Airforce Jazz Band played, I thought before hand, "Military Jazz??? Isn't that sort of an oxymoron?" Then, they played and (while I won't claim to be a great expert in jazz -- I like it, I'm just not an expert) they were quite good.

His speaking skills have really improved. He gives a very good speech, and he has great raport with the crowd and great stage presence.

Maybe a stupid question but what is his stage presence like? I always
pictured GWB as sort of informal in appearance. Is GWB very dynamic as
a speaker? How tall does he appear etc.

He's a bit over six-feet, I think.

He has excellent raport with the audience. The last time I saw him he was very informal speaking extempreously without a teleprompter or notes. Yet he had everyone's attention, very commanding.

I went to the rally at nationwide arena in columbus, and he was great. People that were there supported him in the first place, but he really got us going. I can say that he is a good speaker to the people.

My father-in-law's at the Jamboree this year. He runs a private scout museum and goes every four years. Mother-in-law's a volunteer at the first aid area. She said thousands of scouts passed out from heat exhaustion the evening of the President's visit - the Secret Service wouldn't allow anyone to carry water bottles or canteens.

I went to Jamboree when I was a kid. The president didn't show, but the First Lady (Nancy Reagan) was there for a speech.

Looking back on it, I wish I had spent my money on something else, Philmont or the Boudary Waters for instance. Or just a trip touring Out East, but skipping the Jamboree part. I definitely enjoyed seeing Washington DC, but the local scout camp and small Camp-O-Ree events were more fun than national Jamboree.

Good for you! The closest I got to Mr. Bush was when he was campagning(SP) in SC. He was in his Bush bus and I was in my car at a Saturday morning traffic light waiting for the green light. I was awed to know he was there and his bus took a right and I kept going straight to work. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. :)

Would you vote for his brother if he ran for president in 2006 or 2010 ? I believe they are both the right caliber for the job.

Uncle[conservative since '48 ] Alan :)

That's a political forum question.

(probrably Jeb supposed to be "brighter" but a Bush v Clinton race? )

In fact, let's just re-use the old ballots... some of them have already been counted several times. What's one more time gonna hurt?

I went to the Jamboree in '97 and heard Clinton speak. 'Twas pretty cool for a 15-year-old. :) Of course, I also heard Mr. Bush speak a few days before 9/11.

I was sitting about 100 yards from the stage, so my view wasn;t that great. He doesn't appear very tall to me, even though he's over 6 foot if Gollnick's right. If I was closer, well he'd appear taller. He was casual and a little informal, which isn't a bad thing. He was wearing black pants and a white button-up shirt, with the sleeves rolled up I think.
He's a little dynamic, we applauded at least 20 times during his speech.
He appears to be a normal guy, not stuck up or cocky, but welcoming in appearance and friendly.
