Well, its time for me to eat a slice of humble pie!!
After lots of people telling me that brass has no class, I decided to give stainless a go.
And to be quite honest, I rather like it!
As an easy start to using stainless, I decided on a set of bolsters instead of the normal guard.
Blade - 3 1/4" x 4mm hollow ground (can't beat being English - the mind works in imperial, everything around you is metric:rolleyes:)
Overall 7 3/8"
Handle - Delrin type material (not sure as it was "liberated" from a site I was on;)) with red fibre on a tapered tang.
The sheath is my old battered pouch sheath which has been rebuilt with a new welt. This came about as a result of selling my own knife "off my belt" the other week. Whenever I try something new, I like to use it myself first to see how it performs, so this is my new user.
Thanks for looking.

Ian

Ian,
Quite nice with the tapered tang and kudos to you for going with stainless.
Thanks for sharing. :)

I think that's a real sweetie.

Undeniable appeal. That's quite the bolster to show it off, too.

Deserves a trip to Kam's for the actor's stage look. ;)

Thanks and congrats!

Cheers for looking chaps:)

Coop, I'm afraid this is gonna be used and abused! But I have got a little something planned for some of Kam's magic later this year;)

Now all I need is the time to make it:rolleyes:

Thanks, Ian

Like it Ian.
Good execution and like the overall handle/bolster treatment.
Stainless is nice, but brass is nice as well and easy enough to clean.

Very nice, sir. I went though a similar process in that I initially used nickel silver, then tried 300 series stainless before I finally discovered 416 and I will never go back.:D The only other guard material that I use regularly is 1018 when I want blued fittings.

Thanks, I'm still going use brass, as people here in the UK seem to like it.
I did look into getting some 416, but when I made a few inquiries it seems that its only availible in the US.. I'm not sure what grade this is, as its just a piece I had kicking around. I've just got myself a bar of 301 though, so I'll definitely be using it again. I'm amazed at just how much more modern it makes a knife look.
Not to mention how much more time it takes to finish compared with brass!
Thanks for looking.

Ian

Looks good Ian. While I don't dislike brass, I think on that knife, the stainless looks MUCH better than brass would.
