I have three blades using L6 and 15N20 now, (Dave Farmer Real Deal, Koyote Knives Leuku and Svord Peasant) and in every experience these knives have incredible edge retention, the easiest applied hair shaving edges of any knife I own, and a very reliable toughness. Does anyone else seek out these two blade steels for their slicers? I know they're common in damascus/laminates, but I was wondering how people like them as standalone steels?

15N20 is fantastic. Koyote does it right, that's for sure. In my personal experience, L6 has been more hit or miss. I had a Muskrat Man in L6 for a while, and it was prone to chipping a bit. Granted, it was a scandi grind. But, I haven't experienced that as bad with other steels in that grind. So, I don't know. The HT might have been off on that one or something.

I have a small kitchen knife in saw steel, probably L6. It cuts forever, never dings, and only needs sharpening about once a year, even though the whole family abuses it. It is a "custom hand made" by an Amish farmer, bought in the city market. The only thing wrong with it is if someone really treats it bad, it'll get a little rust.

I've made several fillet type knives from band saw blades, and they perform great.

Anyone know "what blade/what steel"?
That is, saw blades can be had from Home Depot, etc, but which blade brands are made from what steel?
