I have a "Portex" folding bow saw my mother-in-law got me in Sweden. It came in really handy on a recent beach hike.

I just ordered a Short Kutt Pocket Saw because it is even smaller and lighter.

Anyone else have experience with these saws? I'm particularly interested in experience with the Short Kutt. I ordered based largely on the review at www.equipped.com.

Hello,

We have several Short Kutt Pocket Saws at our Scouting group and combined with the muscle power and almost unlimited energy our Scouts seem to have when they are collecting firewood for a fire, the Short Kutt Pocket Saws work very well, especially on bigger sized wood and best when it's dry dead wood.

For smaller sized wood I use an GB Small Forest Axe or even a Gerber folding Saw.

Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

When packing for more than a day, I carry a Supreme Products pocket chainsaw, very similar to the Short Kutt. Very fast, simple to use, much more durable than frame or folding saws, and as you note, compact and very light to pack. The only drawback for survival/ emergency purposes (in event of an injured arm) is that it requires two hands.

You have a point there about the one-hand thing. I guess strictly speaking a folding pruning saw LIKE THIS would be best (big enough for most shelter and fire building tasks, but useable with one hand). I can't imagine putting together my Portex with one hand.
