Looking at the Randall models with sawteeth I've noticed that there seems to be no set number of teeth and the sizes of the teeth seem to be different. I realize that being handmade they are all going to be a lttle different.
How do they cut them? Is there a set pattern they fit them into?
How many different models have they put them on? Any really rare ones?

It is my understanding that one of the older cutlers at the shop cuts all the sawteeth by hand on a thin wheel one tooth at a time, truly handmade using no jigs or patterns.

Very interesting. Thank you.

The way it's been explained to me is that, when the grinding wheel (or whatever they use to cut the teeth - I'm no expert) is new, the teeth are small. As it wears out, the teeth get bigger, until they finally scrap it and start again with a new one.

One day I'd love to see them make a knife. Things like this fascinate me.

I can't see him going for it, but I'll mention it to GTR the next time I talk to him. God knows, he's heard plenty of hare-brained ideas from me already.

It can't hurt. What's the worst he can say?

Does anyone have any unique Randalls with teeth? Looking through Shel's book I saw a few I'd love to have? Pictures anyone?
