well today i was mooching around in grandpa's shop doing some knife related things.. the little wood stove used in there for heat was going. so looking around the tools i found a old sawzall blade thats been broken, so i thought "hey i always wanted to make a kiridashi, heres a good start.

so i take this small saw blade to the grinder grind out the general shape. wondering what i was going to do the chisle grind with i look around and find a old hand held belt sander.. so plug it in turn it up side down and start using that to grind out the bevel. so get the bevel done remove burr then attaching some wire to the hole i throw the blade into the coals of the stove open the damper and once the blade has soaked at a medium orange i run around trying to find something to quenche in... finding a old flower vase i fill it with watter and then plunge the little blade into the cold water.

so after that i get home and i refine the edge out with a medium dmt then a fine dmt and finaly a well worn xf dmt the it goes on a ceramic stone then onto some 1200 grit sand paper and finaly onto the strop loaded with mothers mag aluminum polish.

so comeing off the strop i tried the printer paper test cut so nicely the cut was actualy shiny. phone book pages both ways no tearing at all.. and its the closest to cuting 2ply toilet paper

here it is its rough but the edge is wicked and thats all that matters

I would imagine that the ceramic (assuming it's Spyderco) and possibly even the DMT XF would give a higher finish than 1200 grit sandpaper, but if it works for you, awesome!

nope the ceramic is a "razor hone" and the 1200 is worn out. before i go to the strop it has a murky reflection.
