I should say "tiny friend", but then I'd not be quoting the movie.

I work in a large engineering corporation. Being a typical 21st century corporation, knives are limited to "small knives". But being an engineering corporation, some ijut went and wrote a specification for just what is meant by small. "No more than a two inch blade and no larger than 4 1/2" opened. It's pretty tough to find knives that meet that spec.

I have a couple that do. A spyderco Ladybug, a Buck Colleague, a Vic Classic. I wanted something else.

I asked here about the Case Tiny trapper and Elliott was kind enough to give me the measurements of a Case Wharncliff Tiny Trapper. I found one on sale and have been carrying it at work for about a week. I LIKE IT:thumbup::thumbup:

The name "Tiny" is apt. It really is dimunutive. I showed it to another knife person. He held it open in his hand and couldn't believe it really was 4 1/4". He said it seemed like three. He pulled out a rule and measured it to make sure. (did I say I work for an engineering company?)

I like using a pocket knife to peel an apple everyday. Tiny does this well. Tiny also works well opening bags and boxes and for all the small tasks I encounter in a cube farm. He's plump. Because he is plump, I can get a fair purchase on the handle. This is always an issue with small knives.

Oh and Tiny is pretty good looking. This is as close to "cute" as any knife of mine is going to get. Tiny for sure won't spook the blade challenged.

Thats sweet... Judging by the shield, it must be a Case Bros ?
Looks like its got some nice scales on it too.... I've never seen a Tiny with the Wharnie blade. Congrats you got a nice one.

Yes, it is a Case Brothers. I hadn't realized that when I was ordering. It surprised me that it came in a Case Brothers Tin and had a nice little pocket sheath. (I prefer it just in my pocket without the sheath. I like to use it as a touchstone sometimes. very soothing during stressful moments at work. Lots of those these days.)

The fit and finish on the scales is really nice. I've seen others with the Barn Red or other colors. This was the first I had seen with what is described as "antique jigged bone". The photos don't show it well, but between the brass dividers and the color of the bone, the bolsters take on a golden appearance that I really really like.

Where did you get that knarfeng?
I'll PM you.

Nice lookin little'un Frank. Touchstone, ...yeah, I do that too with a couple of my fav. edc's

Nice looking little knife. Those are some bogus rules they have - 4.5" long is a little ridiculous. Anyway it gave you a good excuse to get some neat little knives!

Those scales are most impressive.

Could you post a pic of it next to a Mini Trapper for size (I don't understand the dimensions of American coins, sorry!)?

I'd been thinking about getting a tiny trapper, and your pics convinced me. Thanks!

That is a beauty! I have been liking Trappers lately, I bought a medium Case a single blade Winchester trapper. Might have to try a little one after seeing yours.

Tiny packs a lot of blade steel on that small frame, and as other members have already stated, the scales are just gorgious!. They sort of remind me of the 6.5 Bone Stag W.R. Case ran for a few years. I also like the Wharncliffe blade as a replcement for the secondary spey blade on this particular model, as it seems most appropriate for your office application. You have done well with this find!. Very nice indeed.

Not a good shot, but it does show the relative sizes of the mini and the tiny:

Received my tiny trapper in the mail today. It looks awesome, but it's the first Case I've gotten that I've been disappointed with the edge out of the box. Gonna take some work to smooth it out.

I hear this more and more these days. I can only wonder if this has been a factor in the growth of numerous very small models of knives that manufactures have come out with. I guess we're living in a more PC time, like it or not.

But that is a very nice looking little friend, Knarfeng.:thumbup:

True enough.

But there was a fight out on the shop floor a couple of years ago that didn't do knife folks any favors. Some guy really lost it and pulled a traditional slipjoint out of his pocket and went after another guy. The other guy knew more about fighting than the guy with the knife. The guy with the knife got it taken away by his opponent, who promptly sliced the first guy up. Frickin Mess.

They changed up the knife rules shortly thereafter. Originally you could have up to a 3" blade.

Ah well. Tiny does OK for me during the day. And my cattle King soothes me at night.
