There are people on the Spyderco site forum saying that Joyce said the Dodo's on the chopping block? Did something get misconstrued somewhere?
Cancelled, really? :(

Oh no!

It seems like its the blade shape, edge shape actually, the S/reverse S blades are all dying. Meerkat, Spot, now the Dodo? Meerkat is still being runned in drop point. The Spot is being reincarnated with a wharncliff (sp) right? And I'd guess that the Paliwog is gonna replace the Dodo?

What's up with that?

That blade shape has to be one of the best for short baldes... :(

They're just trying to make room for a Dodo with a wharncliffe blade...right Sal? ;)

In the thread I saw, someone mentions when it's retired, not that it's retirement is emminent.

Did the PB washered dodo's ever make it into the supply line?

I love the Dodo as well, just picked up my second one. Got a blue one first and now a black. Bad news though, according to Joyce, Spyderco is discontinuing the Dodo to make room for new knives. Get 'em while you can!!

My hope is that Joyce was misunderstood or the above poster is hallucinating??

Hello all! It hasn't yet been definitively determined what will or will not be discontinued for 2006. We'll be making those decisions later in the year (probably in October) and we'll announce then what has been decided.

Have a great weekend!

Kristi

I like my Dodo very much, but it's a very unique design, maybe this scared off a lot of buyers. So if it will be discontinued, I'd understand that.

I'm glad that Spyderco had the gigantic balls to release such a unorthodox knife in the first place. I'll always cherish my Dodo, and Spyderco for producing it.

Thats really too bad. I have a blue PE. When I first saw the Dodo I pretty much knew I would never get one but after reading so much positive info I ordered one. Glad I did. It's such a good knife. Since they are being discontinued I ordered a black SE Dodo last night.

I for one hope the Dodo will NOT be discontinued. I gave my wife one as a gift and she loves it. Maybe I should get myself one too.

When I first read the post that started this snowball rolling, I did a search, both here and on the Spyderco factory forum, for all posts by Joyce in the last few months and read through them all, not one mention of the Dodo. Checked posts by Sal and TazKristi on both sites too, just in case, no mention of the Dodo that could in any way be construed as even hinting at its immenent demise. Now granted, bpfsu could have gotten his information in a telephone conversation with Joyce, or in an email response from her, or possibly even in person at Blade, but since TazKristi has now stated that NO decisions regarding the retirement of ANY particular model for '06 have yet been made, I'd bet dollars to donuts (no pun intended) that IF Joyce said anything it probably was that one color or the other would be phased out.
