Hello everyone!
I'm Jeff Higgins from New Hampshire. I've visited blademaking many times in my life, but now I am in a spot where I can settle down and forge some nice stuff. I just got lucky finding this forum and hope to exchange some great ideas here. Soon, I hope to get a digital camera and show you guys some of my work.
I am a machinist and industrial mechanic by trade, and meet many folks who are alot like me and we trade ideas. One of my good friends, who lives on my street btw, is a bladesmith and engraver. Most of you may not know him, but his work found its way to an old cover of Blade Magazine many years ago.
He made a sweet ivory-handled bowie with solid gold medallions sculpted in the images of Cochise and Geronimo inlaid on each side of the handle. The whole blade was engraved into a scene depicting Native Americans chasing a buffalo herd on one side, and wolves on the other. A busy knife, but the quality and precision were there and the knife was appraised at $25k!
Spending time with him has just inspired me to begin my own work on blades. I hope we can share some fellowship, friendship, and knowledge in the months to come. Thanks for reading and Happy New Year!
peace
