First ,
hi everybody and greetings from Croatia. Glad to be here.

Second,
great fan of KA-BAR knives. First one i got was a dozier hunter folder (coyote brown) couple of years ago. I wanted an EDC folding knife and it had to be a
KA-BAR :) Being on a (tight) budget i chose the hunter and i've carried it every day since. (Well, almost. I nearly put in my pocket on my wedding day :D, decided against it)

And now the questions. Last year a got a kraton handled Mk1. Now, i'm no woodsman, or an extensive outdoors or anything similar and usually the only opportunity to use the knife is on weekends, during airsoft trainings, skirmishes and events (everybody needs a hobby, right). But, after a rainy day i noticed a couple of darrk spots on the blade. I used WD-40 to clean it a little, and decided to use the knife every chance i get, even it means just carving some wood. The question (finally) is: should I do anything else besides using it, and keeping it dry after use?

And second question: any recommendations on a MOLLE sheat for the mk1? Nothing expensive, just something for the weekends.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Kabar forum and Bladeforums, we are truly glad to have you with us.

I would recommend just a dash of mineral oil. If the dark spots begin to bother you much, you can always sand the blade a little with some 600gt wet dry sandpaper.

The dark spots are the beginning of a patina, a controlled "rust" or oxidation of the carbon steel. It won't harm its performance in the slightest, and if given time to grow, will protect the blade from bad rust.

Red rust is the bad kind of rust, blue rust, or patina, is the good kind.

Once again, welcome, and feel free to ask any questions you wish of us, we'll do our very best to get you covered.
