Hi, I was thinking of getting into sayoc kali, but considering im nowhere near a school, I was thinking of geting a dvd for just a kind of basic intro to the system. Dose anyone know which dvd would be good for this (if any)? Thanks

The 3 of 9 template is probably what you're looking for. But without a partner the DVD is pretty much useless.
I can possibly help on your school search ,where are you located?

A DVD will absolutely not give you even a basic intro to the system, even with a partner, but without a partner it's completely hopeless. Whatever you think you can get in sayoc kali -- which is a great system -- I bet you can find in other systems as well. You'll be way better off just finding a kali school that *is* near you, and concentrate on that, IMO.

Hello,

I agree with others here that training at an actual school is the preferred method of learning.

However, you specifically asked for a good intro DVD and I would say that you could get a good idea of the Sayoc system's overall training with the Sama Sama DVDs because you will have a wide range of subjects covered.

If you just want knifework. The Transition One DVD is just as good as the 3 of 9 DVD. So you can learn Sayoc knife basics from them. Since Sayoc is feeder based, you can also supplement your training if you do find a good school to attend.

If you want to get some good stick work material, you can also check out the Stick grappling DVD taught by Tuhon Thomas Kier, or if you are a karambit fan you shouldn't miss the info that's found in Tuhon Ray Dionaldo's Karambit DVD.

Effective training requires more than one person involved.

So it isn't really a knock that Sayoc DVDs requires you to find another body to help you evolve... ALL good training DVDS (no matter what style) that proposes to teach knifework requires a training partner to get the most out of the material.

You start slow and get the moves down and then you work to a level where you can step outside of the order of the drill and explore the freeflow aspects of knifework with a resisting opponent.
