Hi every one.
I have carried a Sayoc Winkler spiked hawk as part of my operational load out for some time now. When i get the chance I do some basic 8 count drills by myself or whit a few of the guys that also carry axes ( RMJ Kestrels mostly:thumbup:)-

The Sayoc is very sharp, when I train whit it, i keep the sheath on the head to cover its blade so as not to cut myself when swing it around. But using it for doing partner drills is just out of the question. So I decided to make a training hawk.

I found a large metal sheet in the scrap pile at my brother’s house and decided to take a blow torch to it. I traced my R & D axe on to the metal strip and when to work.

I’m going to drill a few holes for a Para cord wrap on the handle tomorrow, maybe paint it tactical black. ;)
Thanks for looking.

You know Et,

If you remove the burrs around it and sharpen the tip a little..you will inflict some serious pain as well.
Be safe and it's a wonderful thought!

Boys and there toys....Good idea...Was just wondering how it would be to dip the piece in.
Plasti Cote tool coating ? Then wrap the handle.

I’ve seen a few trainers made for the R & D axe but they are almost $80 dollars. This one is going to cost $0 dollars.

I feel a budding bladesmith coming along ;-))))

Be safe Brother

I think a spiked axe like the ones you made is my next project. :)

Not too bad. The best I could do to sand out the edges whit what I had. The balance and weight on it is almost identical to the real thing.

Wow that was easy! I don't know why makers charge so much money!:D

This was a learning experience for me, and it gave me even more respect for the work all you blade smiths do. That hunk of steal i made is nothing but a shadow of that Winkler. Dan Winkler is by far my favorite maker and when you get to hold some of his custom stuff you will know why- the sheaths Karen makes for some of his custom work are also beautiful.
