SBG Custom Swords Yea or Nea

I've purchased from them but have not purchased any of their custom format swords. Their service is excellent. You order from them in Australia and they have your sword drop shipped to you from the manufacturers warehouse.

I might take their offerings with a grain of salt.

I noted one thing about their reviews:
Cheness swords are all given 4-5 stars, with a little side mention hidden in some dark corner of the site mentioning that they had a "special arrangement" with Cheness Cutlery, as well as an exclusive interview with the owner.

If they're biased with one sword maker, it wouldn't surprise me if they gave their own product line an easy 5 stars.

Still, the T-10 tungsten tool steel does sound pretty impressive.

Though on Sword Forum International, I only found 2 threads making reference to the SBG Torakami(no reviews), and absolutely no reference to the SBG Kuramono.

Don't forget some pepper to go along with that bowl of salt:thumbup:.

It may help to know precisely what you want from the katana, as there are a lot of considerations. I personally wanted function before fashion, and so I ordered an extremely "plain" looking katana from Kris Cutlery.

I ordered a custom katana and wakizashi pair from them almost two years ago. The blades are better than you would expect for the money. The fittings are entry level. I had a problem with the wrap on one of my swords -- Paul from SBG was extremely quick and friendly with finding a solution; he sent me a new sword free of charge to replace the one with a bad handle wrap. I got to keep the 'lemon' -- and fixed it myself with no problem.

I think they are a class act.

Edit: As far as I know T-10 is what the Chinese call the steel in these swords -- but it is not the t-10 high speed steel we are used to. It's really more like a C .8 melt of W-2. That's a good thing.
