Sbt

They will have different versions of the knife, but no word yet what the materials/construction will be.

Is it true that later version has thicker liners? I heard it from people who went to shot show. If it is true, I must have one now. It is about time to make it with thicker liners.

The current production is the same thickness as the original. We may go thicker in the future, but so far we haven't had any reason to.

Thanks,

Josh

This is a great knife. I have been using this knife hard for two months ( I bought another last week, so I could somewhat abuse one of them) The steel liner is just fine as are the serrations. Most of my cop buddies that have seen it would like to have one. This knife has compelled me to go out and buy a Strider SNG. I also use a Buck Strider mini tanto as my emergency pry tool. Thanks Buck Knives!

Back to the original question - Any plans to offer the SBT in plain edge?

Right now we are only building them for special orders for Agencies, however, I am pushing to add it as a regular product. Over 90% of our customers prefer serrations, so we have focused on building them that way.

If I have any over runs on any special orders I will post it here.

Josh,

Thanks for the info. I like the design but the serrations are not good for my work. Patience is the key, but I sure would like a couple of plain blades.

I assume you mean 90% of your military and police customers. From my experience on these forums it seems only about 40% prefer serrations.

Remember that unfortunately the members and participants of these and other forums only represent a very small percentage of the market. Forum participants are usually more knowledgeable and experienced with what's available in the knife world. In my opinion, forum goers are more knife connisuers than your average customer in a knife shop.

As far as serrations go,

In the military there are guys that swear by them and guys that hate them. When cutting fibrous materials they can be a real lifesaver, but so can a well maintained plain edge. Its always a matter of personal preference.

I will continue to push for plain edged 882's, because I personally like a plain edge better.

Is there anything we can do to help you push for plain edged 882's? Or is this one of those things where it would be best for us to let you handle it?

I'm on it, and it will happen. Thanks for the offer though.

Josh,

While I prefer plain edges, I find the serrated edge on my SBT to be more subtle than the serrations found on other knives.

The serrations on this knife are not a reason to keep from getting one. Great knife!

Malcolm, You are definitely right about this being a great knife – even with the serrations. I was looking at one last night. I will wait for the non-serrated version. At least for a little while.

I have an 882 and I love it, but a plain edge would work better for me. The liner thickness was a disappointment at first. Now after using it I think the liners are fine as is. And it holds an edge better than any other knife I have.

I find the Bos heat treated ATS-34 on these knives to be exceptionally good.
