I would appreciate someone setting me straight when it comes to Schrade SC 503's.

I have a few LB7's and use them as my EDC. I have read on this forum about dating LB7's and how to identify what is Schrade and what is "after market" Schrade LB7's. So I feel fairly confident in buying LB 7's. But when it comes to SC 503's I am lost.

Recently I bought a SC503, with the (Schrade +, USA, SC 503) stamp. But I see that stamp on Older (1980's) SC 503's as well at newer (2000) knives. Can someone point me to a link where I can read about these knives or provide me with the information of a way(s) to date SC 503's?

Thank you

What is the scene on the handle? Reference it on this chart.

Thank you for the reference. I had seen that before. Looking at the big auction site, there are SC503's with Santa Claus scenes, flags and ???. The blade markings are as I described above. Are the Santa scenes, etc. knives made by someone other than Schrade? Or in other words, unless the scene on the handle is one of the ones on the chart, it is NOT Schrade made?

Hi! An interesting topic, the "event enhancement" and special occasion SFO scrims. Some were made for merchants like SMKW and some for local fundraisers like fire house restorations, 4th of July celebrations, annual Christmas lighting events around Ellenville. Of course local collectors and former employees are most likely to be able to accurately identify and date those from their own recollections and collections. I do seem to recall a subsequent page of the Levine's Guide provided him by Ms. Chase, ISC company historian which lists a few more issues than the above page. Basicly the finished unadorned knives were pulled from inventory as needed, a heated steel stamping die made and pressed into the Delrin over a dye tape which fills the stamped "scrimshaw" lines with ink. Many of the designs were then turned over to a production worker to be filled with a dye "wash" giving a pastel color to areas of the design. So there you have the rest of the story. Show a picture of the particular issue for more specific info on yours. Some very knowledgeable people (with better memories than mine) frequent this forum!

Thank you Michael for the information.

I don't know if this an acceptable thing to do, but I could post a link to the knife I was looking at. The knife is on the Big auction site. But I don't want to be breaking Forums rules if linking is not allowed. If you look at "Schrade SC503" on the site, you will see a few knives with Christmas themes.

Rod, Christmas 2000 and Santa's Workshop are both legitimate Schrades, as are the knives with "Happy Holidays" etched on the blade along with a date (as long as it's 2004 or earlier).

The "Santa's Workshop" example. IIRC this assembly was put together at SMKW (Kevin Pipes principlal owner) with the knife provided as seen by Schrade, tin, other bits outsourced by SMKW.

Thank you for the explanation, that clears up my query.

Your pic is similar to the ones I saw. That is what started this thread.
