I haven't even received my first khukuri (on its way), just placed a special order last night, and am already planning out my third. Am I suffering from HIKV? No, I'm not suffering :)

H.I.'s website has the beautiful kothimoda khukuri. As an option to the silver adorned scabbard, wood and horn comes to mind... Which is more apt to hold up well over the years, all things considered equal? I would be maintaining the scabbard regularly...

I would also appreciate any high resolution photo links detailing either the standard Dhankuta scabbard, or forumites' customizations, and any sort of presentation scabbard in wood, with and without inlays and/or carvings.

Thanks :)

Wood.

Horn appears suitable only for smaller ( 12" ) khuks.

Leather does fine. Ask for banana yellow or fire engine red. if you want to be different.

I think you ought to go for a nice Royal Purple...seems to suit the Italian motif better!

Rusty, that heavy burl Saatisal wood would look really nice with inlays similiar to the ones seen on the Everest Katana; the Truoil (sp.?) treatment really brings out that beautiful grain. Royal purple… :barf: Wait a second now; it might be a good idea. I could have the kamis prepare the buttcap in bright orange florescent paint, and not even be bothered by the Carabinieri if I carried it in public. :D Thanks for the idea, Nasty!

Banana yellow, fire engine red... Let me see if I first can hunt down some Gucci loafers in those colors.

I've a small tibetan sword in red. Forget
what the sarkis housed in banana yellow. Someone will remind me.

Drdan...I was just thinking that Royal Purple is a match with many of the Vatican colors...it'd make a perfect reminder of your time there...
