Jim, from what I've read about the Gorkhas and from watching videos about them, it seems that they are issued a 15" khuk with a patent-leather type sheath to wear with their dress uniforms, but for combat they carry pretty much whatever they want in terms of both khuk and sheath. And, for combat, most appear to prefer a slightly larger khuk, with a camouflaged sheath.

Jim, the Gorkhas do rely on their Khukuris as back up weapons to their SA 80 assault rifle. Even for me, I would choose a larger khukuri for actual combat. The larger blade would give me that reach I needed, as well as better cutting abilities. Even having a handgun for a back up for my rifle, I still would carry a large khukuri 17" - 20". The standard BAS model is still a good choice, especially if the soldier is carrying alot of equipment.
