Hello Gents. I just received my Scagel Dogwood, and was wondering if any of you who have one, could share your impressions. I'm a bit on the fence here, as it's long on charm, and the blade is nice and stout with a crazy sharp convex grind from Bark River (I believe). However, the walk and talk leaves me cold. I realize it's radiused (?) with no half stop, but the action is stiff and pretty rough. It may break in. There's a satisfying "thunk" when I get it open, but when closing it, it acts like a friction folder, as there's no snap at all. if not pushed closed, it will just hang there. My question to any owners, or anyone with experience with any of these, is: does your knife have better or similar action? I was thinking of returning or exchanging it, if I did indeed get a lemon. But if this is the norm, I may just overlook it a this knife's particular quirk (charm?). Opinions?

I have two of them from the first offering last year. Both have firm springs, both snap on opening and closing. Try flushing and oiling the pivot as there may well be some grit from the finishing process in there. If there is still no spring action on closing it may well be a qc issue you need to talk to the dealer about.
Otherwise, I have had one or the other in my pocket every day since I got them. Great little knife.

I've been wondering about these since I saw them over on a dealer's site. Nice looking and the stag is terrific, though I'm a bit partial to the ivory as well.
I'd love to hear more, as I've got an itch again, and it's for a Scagel :D

Well, I'll find out soon enough. I showed these to my son along with the Fruitport wharncliffe, he immediately said "get that one Dad," pointing to the Dogwood.

I love my boys :D

I have eyeballed these for a while.

Great looking.

Maybe the top selling points would have to be the steel, and the Bark River grinds on the blades. Bark River (according to users) knows how to put a great convex grind on.

That would save me from having to do it my self later.

I have had one for about a year and absolutely love it. Mine has smooth bone scales and the spring is pretty stiff but I'd rather too stiff than not stiff enough (no funny comments :D) and it snaps open and closes with authority....I like it.

Great to hear that, thanks for the input. I ended up sending it back for an exchange, and just received a shipping notice yesterday, so hopefully I'll have the new knife by early next week. Fingers crossed.

I got mine in ivory this week, it's a sweet knife!

It doesn't snap like some others I have, but it isn't lazy. Glad it doesn't close too fast, I'd hate to get a finger in the way of that blade

You're killin' me here, Griff. Wouldn't happen to have any pics would you?

Not yet Rick, it just came yesterday and I just dropped it in my pocket after work today. With some luck I'll take pics over the weekend, I've been lazy in taking pics of any of my knives.

While it's not big in size it's got some heft, you know it's there waiting for any kind of cutting job. I love it!

Ok, thanks. I hope I didn't seem pushy. My apologies if I did. It's just that I have been eyeballing the Ivory Dogwood since this thread started and I am overly anxious to see some homegrown pics.

I don't think I can afford one right now unless I sell a knife or two but I sure do like the looks of them and the blade steel. Would like to get one sooner or later.

Congrats my friend! Looks like a mighty fine knife in the dealer pics. The Stags and Ram's Horns look great too.

Not at all :) The guys over on the watch forum I moderate remind me I need to update my pics all the time. My wife is the better photographer, she notices when I get out the camera.

Too many pics of "my stuff" can get me in trouble, you know? :D I've been on a roll buying, selling and trading for the last 6 months, everytime a package comes I have 'splainin' to do, LOL She knows me too well, and if you saw the pics of a couple of my Zippo displays in another thread here I don't blame her...

Quick update on my Dogwood. I have to say Customer Service with the dealer was pleasant, painless and quick:) The replacement knife has the walk -n- talk I was hoping for on the original, and is actually a little easier to open too, about a 5, where the original was probably a 6. I can actually pinch this one open:thumbup: This one even feels a touch lighter, also a plus as these are definitely chunky little knives. The only nit to pick, was that it seemed a little less care was taken in finishing off the swedge. Not a big deal at all, and nothing a little file work and some wet/dry didn't fix. Pc taken before the nose job ;) The tip is now cute as a button. All in all, I'm pretty darn happy with it!

SonnyJim, I have to say that is one fine looking knife! I don't know if it's just the difference in pics but your new one looks even better than the first one. Glad to see that you got it all worked out.

zippofan, how are you liking your Ivory Dogwood?

Hi guys, I'm sorely tempted by one of these just gutted that I can't find a stag one anywhere :( how is the blade lock up on these? As I hate blade play.
Cheers
