I have a new Scagel folder on the way. The 2nd folder, and third knife of this reproduction series by northwoods. It has stag handles, 1095 carbon blade. Does anybody have this knife, and what do you think of it? Or how about Scagel knives at all? I am also thinking about #8, that english jack knife. Care to post any pics and reviews? thanks!

I've got forged Scagels by P.J. Tomes and Ray Kirk, both ABS Master Smiths.

There's pix in my "Custom Folders" album. (Link below my signature.)

Classic knives.

ray makes a mean folder. His scagels are top notch....:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Hey Durbin I think you got yourself a great knife, the scagles made by Northwoods are fantastic with great quality. I have a knife world article saved on microsoft word I could send you if your interested. I love these knives that are true to the authentic scagels.

Quote from the article:
David Shirley of The Custom Shoppe owns the rights to the Scagel name. He proudly admits there is nothing creative about his Scagel reproductions. They are copies of original knives he has owned. They have the same feel and balance and dimensions as the originals. They are more accessible to those of us who would like to experience the use of a Scagel without the prohibitive expense of an original.

Durbin, I think you mean this model, pictured below. I carry this one from time to time, and love it. It's a bit crude, heavy with a thick blade, but very functional, and the stag on most of them is A-1!! They are not nearly as sophisticated as say, Bose knives, because of their thick blades, and lack of refining swedges, but I think they carry the spirit of the early "real" Scagels; ugly and beautiful at the same time!
Makes complete sense to me. . . .ahemm, here it is!

I own one of the 2 bladed stag models pictured in Sunburst's post.

I carry it in a sheath when I am out hiking, or for yard work. It's a big knife--very thick blades. Very suited to heavy work, and sharpens easily. A very good working knife. I wish I could have gotten another for a safe queen.

I like the look of these repros esp the single blade types.

Can anybody mention a price range here? Thank you.

Thanks for the replies y'all.

Blues, thanks for the link, you have some great looking customs.

Waynorth, yeah that is the one, that is a good pic, btw.

Sunburst, wow! Those were some great shots, thanks so much for sharing them, and if you would email me, I would love that article.

Very nice Scagel repo's one and all. These northwoods knives are really evolving into some quality pieces.

Sunburst, do you have the very first offering by any chance? It was the two blade bolster-less knife based on Old Bill's personal carry. Mr. Shirley was showing some side-by-side photo's of the authentic Scagel and his prototype just prior to the release.

This one below.

Burstman, your collection is nothing short of phenomenal! You have a knack of putting together the prime pieces! Way to go!!:thumbup:

I picked one up from a gentleman here earlier this year. Very stout knife. If you want a heavy solid folder this it. I carry mine just about any time I'm wearing jeans, fills the change pocket perfectly.

Hey Sunny,

It's been a long since I've had the pleasure of typing at ya, I hope all is well with you in your corner of the Everglades..That is one beauty of a knife my friend, I do have the very first offering like the one in your picture but yours seems to be a lot more eye catching in my opinion...Great knife..

Waynorth,

Thank you for the best compliment I could ever ask for, I have always tried to put together a few prime pieces in my meager collection and your comments hit the heart of what I am trying to do ...Then again there's more than a couple in my collection that I begged & pleaded away from your secret knife chest.

Much obliged for the compliment, but the real reason I asked was to inform you that these babies are slowly but surely starting to climb into the investment category. You likely know this already, but just in case you don't, I just wanted to make you aware of the profit potential. I just sold won for double what I paid for it back when it was released.. So since I purchased several of these I am pretty pleased with that fact and wanted to share the info w/ya.. I also would like to wish you and all of your family a safe and very blessed holiday season!. Merry Christmas my friend!!:D

Well, been thinking, and I think this knife is cool, but do not love it like I thought I would. I am gonna return it, I am not really a collector, so no sense in keeping a knife I do want to use. thanks for the replies, and pic sharing guys.
