Hi guys,

I was just browsing and I came across some Scagel Fruitport Clip folders. I see that they are made by GEC and convexed by BRKT.

I love the slipjoints that GEC turn out and have a few BRKT's so I know what to expect for the edge and grind profile.

I am just wondering from people that have these what are the conclusions? Any pictures?

Thanks for any info :)

I have one of those, and it's fantastic. One of the best slip joints currently on the market, in my humble opinion. They're right up there with the Case/ Tony Bose series as far as I'm concerned. Well, almost. Fit and finish, blade grinds and blade action are all superb. I don't think I have any pictures that are better than what you've probably already seen. My favorite thing about the Fruitports is that they're so easy to pinch open. An easy to open knife with superb blade geometry, great workmanship and materials. It's slim and light in the pocket, too.

I have the smooth bone version, and it's lovely.

+1 on that, great knife

P.S. It looks like the Barehead Jack is also convexed now, couldn't resist! :)

Two votes yes :)

I spelled it wrong in the BF search, a second search came up with more threads. Google and autotype are making me dumb :o

For the price I am really leaning towards the Stag and maybe even the Ivory. The bone ones do have a terrific look that is hard not to like. Tough choice on this one.

I chose the bone handle clip and am very happy. Fit and finish is superb, very classy. Slight underblading but that is something that doesn't bother me too much. The blade on mine just contacts the back spring if you close it too vigorously so I let it go gently from the half stop. It is a slim pattern (based on the GEC #48 i think) so perhaps a bit dainty in the hand for some tasks but the convex edge and slightly downward pitch of the blade makes it a keen slicer.

Funny richstag, seeing the pic's of your genuine stag #73 got me set on getting one. Unfortunately i received the wrong knife and was back to square one. When I found out the Barehead jack was convexed the choice was easy. There are some nice sambar stag versions available but I imagine you are very happy with your GEC #73, beautiful knife.

Thanks and yes my 73 is amazing and has not left my pocket. I am looking at the scagel as a gift :)

I don't actually mind underblading at all. Some of my 73's have it slightly while other do not. I have come to prefer underblading. I don't know why.

Congrats on yours also!

I've looked at them but haven't ordered yet. The look great though. Seeing as how GEC already made a wharncliffe version, I'm hoping they make a wharncliffe trapper soon. I've been considering getting 2 of them and having someone more skilled than I put them together but I could almost get a custom for what it would cost.

I hear you on the custom. I have been speaking with Mr Wiseman and trying to come up with the perfect first true custom slipjoint for me. This just cought my eye. Its a great looking knife. All around.
